The Kosher Breadboard
this is a small and fun project.
The idea is to use a Matza as a breadboard and to build on it a simple circuit that make the Matza buzz when it breaks.
what happens is that normally the buzzer on the board is short circuited with an aluminum foil. When you break the board (Matza) the aluminum tear apart and the buzzer buzzes
Main semester project - The Organic Keyboard
after developing, rethinking and consulting the idea of the interactive flower i converted my project to Organic Keyboard connected to a computer and a screen: The idea is to use a mac keyboard and replace the keys with grass.
The user can water the grass and pet it - both of the actions cause visual effect on the screen; by watering the grass the screen shows ascii code in the form of flowers. petting the grass causes the flowers to fade away.
After investigating and trying some water and pressure sensors i realized the the easier way to cause a result by the water is to use a water sprayer and to connect a wireless switch to the already made switch of the sprayer.
Things i need
electricity spot
computer (optional - if not i can use the laptop)
computer screen
desk
chair
Things to do
get wireless equipment - the shipment should arrive in any day
finish building the water sprayer wireless switch (this depends on the wireless equipment)
get grass - done
get a mac keyboard - done
build and design the keyboard - done
build the whisker switch
inserting the whisker sensors and finish building the keyboard
connect the keyboard and the wireless switch to the keyboard emulator and check and see how it all works.
write the flash program
write and illustrate instructions

expand one of the two concepts achieved for [A2] or devise s new concept towards your exhibit project. The problem with my bottom-up idea is that it is not so interactive. I decided to take the barcode reader to other idea ( a more interactive one):
Barcode ping-pong
On a big screen i'll project barcodes - the user will have a barcode reader that with it he would have the ability to read the bracodes on the screen. Every time a bar code is being read it disappears and another one somewhere else on the screen is created. This is actually the first step. After creating this prototype i can add multiple users - every user that reads a barcode passes the barcode to another user.
I have another small idea witch I don't know if I have the tools to produce it - to create an interactive dice - it will be like an ordinary dice with one exception: the dice number will be read automatically by the computer - by using some kind of electronic pad that will sense on what number the dice is on.

Hack an electronic appliance (such as CD, VCR, DVD) and create an alternative interface to its various switches. You are not allowed to use a computer in this project. In a short Paragraph, describe how your interface changes the interaction with the device (and perhaps the entire purpose of the device).well my first idea was to create a wireless alarm clock using an alarm clock and a walki talki. Unfortunately while building it the electronics of the alarm clock got broken accidentally. Because of that I decided to use my balance sensor (see A[3]) and to produce a wireless motion sensor - using the balance as a kind of microphone and the walki talki electronics to pass the signal wirelessly.

Create a switch from found objects, test it using your IPAC+PC or your own electronic circuit. On this assessment I built a tunable weight sensor; When you put something heavy on the sensor an electrical circuit closes. You have the ability to change the sensibility of the sensor by adjusting the tuner.
The Sensor was built on a regular balance (analog) that was bought on Kmart. By putting on the meter a nail (conductor) and putting a static nail on the balance front I made the sensor work. Not only that the sensor is relatively strong (because it is base on a balance) the sensor is tunable because it already has the the built-in adjustor.

Write two paragraphs, the first about a possible project idea using a top-bottom approach, and the other using a bottom-up approach. you will present these ideas in class. The Wireless Robot (top-bottom approach)
Input is actually an output of a foreign object.
Instinctively we think that when someone is putting an input it is with intent, but it doesn't have to be so.
My offered project will take place on Bryant Park (near the national library).
The work would be an interactive Robot (or some kind of mechanic arm) that moves and triggered from the internet surfers that are using the the free wireless network in the park. The robot will move according to the inputs of the the quantity of surfers and the way that they are scattered. In addition it will be influenced from other (private) networks that works near the park.
Printer - Barcode Reader Clock (bottom-up aproach)
This offer is a bit complicated to explain.
Printer that prints barcodes that a barcode reader reads.
The computer receives the barcode number from the barcode reader and send to the printer the barcode number plus one. The printed barcode is then being read by the barcode reader and so forth. The time from one print to the other is the basic time unit of this device.

Modify a mouse/keyboard towards a new input device for a computer, and use it to control either an existing computer software or a new one that you've written (in Flash/Processing/Director/C++ or other). The goal of this assignment is to examine the relationship between the physical shape of an interface device and the tasks that it is designed for. Think about Input/Output/Mapping/Energy.In this asigment I degign a prototype for an interactive pillow. By usinig a hidden computer muse inside the pillow, i manegd to get input and know if someone is leaning on it. Then i conected the mouse to the computer and programed a small program using Flash that "knows" to get two events - mouse_click & Mouse_release. Each event trigers a different procedure:A.wake up (no one leans on the pillow) --> mouse_realese --> day procedure --> computer screen shows a day photo of an island and playes the song -Beutiful Day, of U2.B.someone leans on the pillow --> mouse_click --> night procedure --> computer screen shows a photo of a street at night and playis the Smeets song - Asleep.
The mouse is hidden inside the pillow and by pressing the head against it the mouse is clicked. i made a little device (look at diagram billow) so only the left click will work and so the surface of the botton will be larger.
